Structured cabling

Structured cabling is the system under which  all low voltage wiring and digital signals which are used to transfer and exchange of data, signals, and communications control are deployed  to a single cabling system.

Subsystems in which structured wiring is used in modern facilities include voice-data networks, video, audio, security, building automation, lighting, and any other system  planned, designed, installed,
and configured as a single system.

With respect to materials and equipment used in  a structured cabling system, it consists of:

  • wiring
  • passive equipment
  • active equipment

As regards the structure, it is divided into:

  • core network (backbone) that includes the central distribution network of digital signals from the data center to the individual subsystems or to the local business checkpoints
  • Horizontal cabling that includes the distribution network from the control center of each subsystem with the equipment of end user positions
